PLANT BASED ALCHEMY - A BOTANICAL DYEING KIT

Botanical dyeing is about using natural and some of the elements we find in nature, mostly plants, transformed into finely ground dye extracts, to alchemize a plain coloured Garment/Tablecloth  into a magical piece.

We have developed our Plant-based Alchemy Kits that is enough to dye a dress or a table cloth, a blouse and a skirt. Fabric weight must be less than 400 gr.

The more weight, the softer the colour.

Includes: 

• A 100 ml jar with Plant-based dye powder/extract, sourced in Spain, for you to choose your favourite colour for your Creative project.
• A sachet with Mordant  (Potassium Alum Chrystals) to prepare the fibers to absorb the dye: 

Tools you’ll need:

Your botanical dyeing kit

2 large pots

Water

Kitchen scale

Spoons

The process:

• Fill each pot with water (2 liters each) and bring to a boil. 
• In one pot, dissolve 10g of Mordant Chrystals per each 100 gr of fabric. 
• Take one  pot off the stove and submerge the dress for 1-2 hours.
• Meanwhile, pour two full spoons of the chosen plant based dye in the other pot, and let simmer for 30 min to overnight depending on the intensity of the colour you want to reach. Check how the colour turns and let the dress simmer until it reaches the desired shade.
• Remove the dress from the pot, let it cool off and rinse with cold water.
• Let it dry and enjoy your new unique creation
• To maximize the duration of your natural dyed garment, was by hand separately from other garments  and in cold water.
