Fashion Revolution Market
As you maybe know, SUNVIBES is a slow fashion brand. All our designs are local made, in limited editions and we try to walk higher in every step we take with our business, to protect environment and be proud of how we do things. So when Sonia and Jesus from In Progress shared with me the idea of a Fashion Revolution special edition of their monthly vintage market El Mercadet Tira'm els trastos, I was excited to get involved!
On Saturday 29th April, we set up a pink caravan stall at the monthly vintage market El Mercadet (Santa Catalina, Palma). The event was held as part of Fashion Revolution Week, which promotes the #whomademyclothes campaign, for a more conscious approach to the fashion world.
The week falls on the anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory collapse, which killed 1138 people and injured many more on 24th April 2013. That is the day Fashion Revolution was born. During this week, brands and producers are encouraged to respond with the hashtag #imadeyourclothes and to demonstrate transparency in their supply chain. The Fashion Revolution is a global movement which raises awareness of the most pressing issues in the fashion industry, such as mass production and consumerism, and inequality of fast fashion. The movement also helps people recognise that they have the power to do something to make a positive change, and opt for a more sustainable and fair-trade choice.
• S U N V I B E S • is a sustainable fashion label, and we feel it is important to make people aware of sustainable, slow fashion and being part of events such as this! We keep track of all the process, from the design to the pattern making, sampling, and sewing, and aim to keep waste to a minimum and maintain this by creating collections with a small amount of pieces in a range of styles. We use 100% Italian viscose for most of our clothes which we then hand design prints on to create a beautiful, timeless pieces. All production is done locally in Mallorca.
The market was vibrant, with live music and a large number of stalls set up in the square. We were surrounded by local sustainable designers and vintage stalls. It was a good opportunity to meet new customers, and take custom orders to create unique pieces. Our lovely customers ensured to visit us on the day, along with a whole range of new beautiful people.
Olivia – she’s the best when it comes to mixing colors and textures, and she’s also a designer in Palma, check out her new brand Cabinita, coming soon!
A big thank you to our gorgeous team and to all the lovely people and to Sonia & Jesús for such a fun and successful day! We really loved the event and are looking forward to more sustainable fashion events soon!
